Bra size is determined by two measurements - the band size and the cup size. The band size corresponds to the measurement around the ribcage, just under the breasts. This measurement is usually an even number. The cup size corresponds to the difference between the band size and the fullest part of the breast.
Cup sizes are often represented by letters - A, B, C, D, DD (also known as E), DDD (also known as F), and so on. The larger the cup size, the more letters are added (e.g. G, H, I, etc.).
It's important to note that cup size is relative to band size. For example, a 34C bra and a 36B bra have the same cup size, but the band size is different.
When buying a bra as a gift for someone else, it's important to know their band size and, if possible, their cup size. If you're unsure, it's always better to go up a band size and down a cup size, rather than the other way around.
